Golden Globes 2014: Best Dressed

Whether you are an award show fan or not, it’s hard to ignore the Golden Globes that took place this past Sunday. The reason we watched? To see the beautiful frocks and handsome guys in tuxes, of course! If you are planning a wedding and still haven’t found your perfect dress, you can take notes from The Golden Globes to help you with your decision. Pay attention to the colors, silhouettes and even the hair and makeup. We’ve picked out our favorites and can’t help but to share!

Allison Williams in Alexander McQueen

This Girl’s co-star sported a super sleek silhouette which would be a great shape for a bridal gown. Black and white is a color combination that was very prevalent at Bridal Fashion week 2013.

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad Couture

Kate Beckinsale in Zuhair Murad Couture

Kate Beckinsale’s exaggerated sweetheart neckline is very popular in wedding gown designs. While sequined wedding gowns are hard to come by, something sparkly like this would look fabulous on a group of bridesmaids.

kerry washington in Balenciaga

Kerry Washington in Balenciaga

Kerry Washington is glowing in this not-quite-white gown. This would make for a beautiful bridal gown but also take note of the color– the egg shell shade of white is the perfect compliment to Washington’s complexion.

Lupita Nyongo in Ralph Lauren

Lupita Nyong’o in Ralph Lauren

This seems to be everyone’s pick for best dressed and for good reason. Don’t be afraid to dress your bridesmaids in a bold color. Also, the cut of this dress is very flattering on Nyong’o’s figure. Keeping your figure in mind when choosing a dress is one of the most important things to remember. You could like something you see in a magazine, but if it doesn’t flatter you figure, it won’t work!

Sophia Vergera in Zac Posen

Sofia Vergara in Zac Posen

Sofia totally rocked this little black dress… or would the more appropriate word be large black dress? This is another silhouette that would be perfect as a wedding gown. The fitted bodice and sweetheart neckline show off Vergara’s curves, while the full skirt makes a statement. Another statement was Vergara’s turquoise necklace. When choosing your bridal jewelry, think outside the box– it doesn’t always have to be diamonds and pearls!

Taylor Swift in Carolina Herrera

Taylor Swift in Carolina Herrera

This ever-popular starlet appropriately wore a red gown. This simple silhouette is another that would look beautiful in white. The waist is nipped in just the right place to accentuate Taylor’s tiny figure. The color-blocking on this Herrera number is done very subtly and can be replicated on a wedding gown or bridesmaids dress by adding a sash of color around the waist.

Naomi Watts in Tom Ford

Naomi Watts was stunning in this Tom Ford beauty. Instead of shades of white for your wedding gown, try choosing something with a champagne shade. It’s different without being too wild. A group of bridesmaids would look fabulous by your side in varying colors of this champagne shade, too!

Will Forte in Ralph Lauren Black Label Navy Tux

Will Forte in Ralph Lauren

We can’t forget about the gents! Will Forte looked quite dapper in this navy Ralph Lauren tuxedo. Navy has become a popular choice in the tuxedo world. It is the perfect way to stray away from the traditional black tux.

Mixing pinks and purples is stunning against a white wedding gown. It will really make your bouquet pop and make quite the statement in photos.

This is another great example of how lighting can make all of the difference. The perfect radiant orchid hue is cast over the white chiavari chairs and the draping around the room takes on the purple-y glow. Not to mention the dripping crystals are incredible.

For a small dose of the color of the year on your big day, wear it on your feet! It will make for some fun photos and will be a great pop of color against your white gown.

radiant orchid dessert and cocktails for weddings

Incorporating a signature color in your wedding doesn’t have to be just within the decor. Your food and even the way it is displayed, are great ways to showcase your colors. Think desserts, cocktails, and even the meal itself. We love the idea of serving radiant orchid inspired cocktails and desserts!

Heinz History Center Wedding

The Heinz History Center, located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is a fantastic location for weddings and events. If you are looking for a location that is truly Pittsburgh, this is the place for you. Recently, The Event Group had the privilege of assisting a wonderful couple plan their wedding at the History Center. The evening was an incredible night for the bride, groom and all of their guests.

Fisherceremony078

The ceremony was in the library which archives the rich history of Western Pennsylvania.  Guests sat on mahogany Chiavari chairs as the bride and groom walked down the aisle lined with a beautiful Oriental rug.

Fisherceremony091

The ceremony was beautiful and took place under a gorgeous arbor of earth tones of fall foliage and flickering candlelight (battery operated for safety of the library, of course!).

Fisherreception001

The couple had originally wanted to have their wedding outside. Boy are we glad that they opted for indoors because October 5th was filled with rain! We recreated an outdoor reception in the ballroom on the 5th floor of the History Center.

Globe lanterns, string lights and candles covering all of the window ledges cast such an amazing glow, creating the perfect ambiance. It was truly breathtaking.

The couple chose to sit at a sweetheart style table which had a perfect view of the dance floor. The gorgeous arrangements at the tables kept consistent with the ceremony floral. There were succulents and an abundance of greenery in each arrangement which made for unique, interesting centerpieces. Mercury glass votives and vases were the perfect complement!

As guests danced the night away, they paused occasionally to grab a sweet treat by Bella Christie’s. Everything from pie pops to cupcakes were available in a visually pleasing display.

As the night wound down, so did the lights, which made for the perfect evening for Gina and Jim.

We wish them all the best; it was so wonderful to be a part of their special day! To check out more of this Heinz History Center wedding, please see the album in our gallery. All photos are by Elizabeth Vincent Photography.
