Our Favorite Things: Summer Edition

Break out the SPF! Summer is officially here. Despite the constant rain and dismal weather Pittsburgh has been seeing, we at The Event Group have full faith that sunny days are ahead.

Here are our favorite tools, tips and trends to celebrate the summer in style.

Allegheny County Summer Concert Series

Every summer you can catch free concerts and performances at Hartwood Acres and South Park Amphitheater. This year’s lineup includes Blue Oyster Cult, Mat Kearney, Harlem Orchestra, Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, and many more. Pro tip: arrive an hour or two before the concert starts because parking fills up quickly and the later it gets, the farther you’ll be from the stage. Pack folding chairs, a blanket and a picnic for a truly lovely night under the stars.

Vera Bradley’s Clearly Colorful Tote in Lucky Dots

This is a perfect poolside tote. It’s vinyl so cannonball splashes (or unexpected raindrops) will slide right off. Always a summertime staple, especially with the not-so-predictable Pittsburgh weather.

Beautycounter Cosmetics

We’re so excited that one of our own team members will be getting married this fall. To prepare for wedding-worthy skin, she’s been using the Beautycounter Essentials Collection. She reports that her skin is already noticeably smoother and feels better.

S’mores Oreos

Ok, these got mixed reviews from the team. Some said they were creative and delightful; others said they were just too sweet. The jury’s still out on the execution, but we love the idea of bringing s’mores flavor to a classic cookie!

Postmodern Jukebox

Postmodern Jukebox offers a multi-decade time travelling experience in the form of music. They re-imagine top pop hits with a twist of 20’s jazz, 30’s bluegrass, 40’s swing, 50’s doo-wop, or 60’s soul. PMJ will be visiting Pittsburgh in November.

Dressed for Any Occasion: Fourth of July

Your calendar isn’t wrong – it’s actually already July. We’re keeping our fingers crossed that this 4th of July will grace us with good weather, good food, and good company.

What’s a girl to wear on this most patriotic holiday? The Event Group team has pulled together our tips for dressing to the nines on the Fourth.

Extended Family Get-Together
This might be a low-key event, but if the in-laws are in attendance or you’re dining out together, you’ll want to look polished. Add nude pumps to a patriotic ensemble for a more chic, mature look.

Backyard Barbecue
Relax. This is usually one of the more casual events you’ll be invited to. Pair a breezy sundress with a rustic accessory, like a floppy sun hat or a straw tote. Treat yourself to a mani-pedi so you’re sandal-ready. Instantly adorable.

Fireworks Date Night
Cozy up under the night sky with your sweetie! Communities around the country will be gathering for stunning displays of fireworks (though we in Pittsburgh will vow that our show is the best on earth). Jean shorts with a chambray top or cozy pullover will keep you warm as the night cools down.

Americana Wedding
Some brides choose the weekend of the Fourth for their nuptials, knowing their guests will get an extra day off of work to help celebrate. But that doesn’t necessarily mean you’re expected to go all-American. While dressing in red, white and blue is probably unnecessary, you may choose to add a nod to the holiday in your outfit. If the ceremony is casual, one American-themed detail can help fit the theme. Just keep it subtle and tasteful – no need to get star-spangled. Consider something classic and understated like nautical stripes or gingham, but let the invitation’s dress code guide your choices.
